A water softener proposal usually puts the equipment at center stage. You may see a control valve model, a cabinet style, a capacity label and a list of included services. Those details matter, but they do not tell you how the installer plans to configure the system for your household.

That missing setup information deserves attention before you commit. A softener must be programmed around the water entering the home, the usable capacity of the equipment and the household's demand.
